Which money song best describes your financial life?

#MeetAPiggyVestSaver: Felix

Whether you’re a young adult ready to start saving for retirement, a 50-something ready to pay off your debts or a young married couple just starting your own family, sustainable savings and accessible investments are two essential things.

PiggyVest aims to help you do both of those things while guiding you through the process! Everyone finds their own unique use for the app, and that, we think is the beauty of PiggyVest.

Every month, we shine a spotlight on one saver (or group of savers), asking them questions about their savings and investment culture and how the product is specifically helping them shape how they spend and save for future responsibilities.

So, here we go, meet Felix.

Introduce yourself: What is your name and what do you do?

My name is Babatunde Felix Ayobami and I am the creative director of ‘House of Felsteve’ (an indigenous fashion brand).

When did you start saving on Piggyvest?

Started Using Piggyvest in 2019. My friend told me about PiggyVest when he found out I was using the regular kolo box to save money, and I have been using PiggyVest ever since.

What Piggyvest feature is your favourite?

The Safe-lock feature. It’s my favourite because I know that I can’t just withdraw money anytime I like or whenever I am tempted. Even when I need money, I have to go and look for money somewhere else.

What do you spend most of your income on?

Investing in my business — As a business person, I like to stock up. There are things I bought two months ago that are twice the price now.

What would you like to stop spending money on?

Accessories — Right now I have 32 rings, once I see rings I just want to buy them. It’s like a bad habit. I have accessories I haven’t worn since I got them, I have some that I haven’t worn in 2 years.

How did you start your business/ how did you discover your passion for fashion?

Started my business after learning how to make shoes during N.Y.S.C SAED program. I discovered my love for fashion since I was a kid but never knew I would choose it as a career then.

What football team do you support? Has your team ever disappointed you, tell us about it.

Chelsea FC. There have been a few disappointing moments, most recent one was when we lost the FA Cup to Arsenal. I was watching the match with my friends and there were more of Arsenal fans than Chelsea fans. After we lost, I couldn’t even finish my drink because of the banter. I just went home to sleep without eating.

What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve spent money on?

Rings. My most expensive ring is 25k.

If you won a lottery, what’s the first thing you will do?

Pay my tithe.

Dinner with Jeff Bezos or #10 million?

Give me my N10m abeg. I need money now, maybe later I can take the offer and add it to my profile. But right now, no! (except he wants to give me money sha).

How would you spend a typical Friday (Pre-covid)? Netflix /party/hang out with the boys etc.

Hang out with the boys.

How broke have you been? What was the extreme/crazy thing you did?

Down to Zero; sold all my gadgets — Back in school, I wanted to visit my girlfriend and I didn’t have any money. So, I sold my phone, iPod etc, just so I could raise money. When I visited her, I went with a small “torchlight phone” and lied that I had lost my phone.

What financial advice would you give your younger self?

Saving and investing should be the first thing on your mind, Felix!
